Most of us are looking for ways to prevent colds, the flu, and numerous other viruses and infections.  Thankfully, there are foods you can add to your daily diet to help keep your immune system strong.

Here are 8 immune-boosting foods: ..........................................................
Citrus Fruits: Almost all citrus fruits are high in vitamin C.  Vitamin C is thought to increase the production of white blood cells, which are key to fighting infections.

Broccoli: Broccoli contains vitamins A, C, and E, as well as fiber and many other antioxidants.

Garlic:  Garlic’s immune-boosting properties is a heavy concentration of sulfur-containing compounds, such as allicin.

Spinach: Spinach is rich in vitamin C and also contains numerous antioxidants and beta carotene, both known to increase the infection-fighting ability of your immune systems.

Yogurt: Yogurt can also be a great source of vitamin D, which helps regulate the immune system and is thought to boost your body’s natural defenses against diseases.

Sunflower seeds: Sunflower seeds are full of nutrients, such as phosphorous, magnesium, and vitamins B-6 and E. Vitamin E is important in regulating and maintaining immune system function.

Green tea: Green tea contains high levels of the powerful antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Studies have shown EGCG enhances immune function.

Papaya: Papaya is another fruit high in vitamin C and also contains a digestive enzyme called papain that has anti-inflammatory effects.

Keep your immune system healthy with a nutritious diet, regular exercise, quality sleep, a positive attitude, and regular chiropractic care.

Make chiropractic a regular health habit for the whole family to ensure your spines and nervous systems are working the best they can.

And that is this week’s Family Health Minute.
