Frequently Asked Questions
Can chiro help with headaches?
Yes! There are many causes of headaches and one of the first things to correct is dehydration. Please drink a glass of water! Chiropractic care has been shown to be very effective in treating many kinds of headaches especially those related to stress and tension. Our nervous system controls the function of every aspect of our body’s functions and stress can disrupt how this communication between the brain and the body occurs – this will result in symptoms – the body is warning you that something is not working the way it should. Chiropractic care corrects the effects of stress on the body and thereby the symptoms that are a result of that stress.
Do chiropractors treat back pain?
Yes! Back pain can be caused by inflammation, tight muscles or even an injury. Chiropractic care is effective in alleviating all these symptoms.
I went to a chiropractor once and he hurt me.
That is unfortunate to hear and certainly not the norm. There are many different Chiropractic techniques and finding a Chiropractor that suits you is important. If you would prefer a more gentle technique find out if your Chiropractor uses Tonal Techniques or Low Force Techniques. These all stimulate the nervous system to correct itself and form the basis of Neurologically Based Chiropractic.
If I go to a Chiropractor, do I still have to go to other practitioners?
That would depend on what condition you suffer from and how long you’ve had it. Sometimes working together with other practitioners allows the body to tackle the healing process from many directions which support each other – in other circumstances it can be overwhelming to the body to be doing too much. This is something that should be discussed with your Chiropractor to find the best individual solution for your situation.
I don’t like the ‘click’ or the ‘crack’. Is this what you do?
The ‘click’ or ‘crack’ that is commonly associated with chiropractic is only one style that some Chiropractors use - there are also many other techniques, namely Tonal or Low Force Techniques which will give wonderful results. We practice Torque Release Technique which commonly uses a tool called an Integrator to adjust the subluxations (areas of the nervous system that are not working as they should) that we find. This is gentle and effective.
How regularly would I need to see you?
The frequency of treatment will depend on the state of your nervous system. If the nervous system is over-aroused we may only do an adjustment once or twice a week but if it is under-aroused we will need to do more frequent adjustments.
If I don’t have pain, does that mean that my spine is in alignment and healthy?
Definitely not! A research study in 2002 showed the following findings in a group of people that had no current or previous back or neck pain:
Disc Protrusion: present in 87% of subjects
Disc Degeneration: present in 73% of subjects
Disc Annular Tear: present in 63% of subjects
Pain is always the last to show up. There are exams, tools, and technology that we use to show how healthy the spine and nervous system are... with or without symptoms (for kids & adults).
