In today’s news we will look at what stress is doing to your body and how to reduce it. The American Psychological Association reported that approximately 50% of Americans feel their stress has increased during the past year. Stress is a physical and emotional response to a negative change in your life.
Chronic stress affects all organs and cells in the body, making you more susceptible to illness. Stress also contributes to high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can give you a jump on managing them. Here are some simple ways to help you keep stress under control. 1. Get enough physical activity, one of the most important and effective ways to reduce the effects of stress. 2. Practice deep breathing techniques to ease physical symptoms of stress. 3. Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Avoid smoking, alcohol, and refined carbohydrates. Eat a healthy well-balanced diet and get enough sleep. 4. Spend social time with friends and family. It stimulates your body chemistry to make stress-reducing hormones. 5. Make time for yourself. Read a book, spend time in nature, listen to music, or watch a funny movie. Although stress is unavoidable, you can learn to manage stress and lead happier, healthier lives. Chiropractic care is a good first step to help you better manage your stress. Get regular chiropractic checkups for the whole family, and make sure your spine and your brain are working the best they can. Your health will be better because of it. And that’s this week’s Brain-Based Wellness News. Welcome to this week’s Brain-Based Wellness News.
In today’s news we will look the benefits of an exercise routine for your brain. Findings from an 8 year study of thousands of retired men and women, ages 75 and above, found that forcing your brain to work on difficult problems and juggling a variety of tasks — when done with care — was the equivalent to lifting weights with your brain. The ability to boost your brain’s performance potential for the rest of your life lies in how you exercise it. Here are 3 ways you can maximize the exercise your brain is getting. 1 At work: Attack your big challenges first and save the routines and repetitive tasks for later. 2 At home: Don’t sit and watch TV. Take on more challenging hobbies like crossword puzzle, play Sudoku, or make home improvement plans. 3 In relationships: Tackling difficult conversations with your partner or friends will improve the performance of your brain (and probably your relationship, too). Discuss big ideas and how to bring them to life. Science confirms that much like lifting weights, the more you take on, the mentally stronger and sharper you become and the longer you will get to enjoy all that life brings. And of course, chiropractic care has been proven to improve brain function and health. Get regular chiropractic checkups for the whole family, and make sure your spine and your brain are working the best they can. Your health will be better because of it.
