Brain & Neurological Health

Helping Kids with Tics and Tourette’s Thrive

What are Tics and Tourette’s?

Tics are sudden, repetitive, and involuntary movements or vocal sounds. They can be simple (like eye blinking or sniffing) or complex (like jumping, repeating words, or full-body movements).

Tourette’s Syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder where both motor tics (movements) and vocal tics (sounds) occur for at least a year. It often begins in childhood, usually between the ages of 5 and 10.

Why does it happen?

Tourette’s and tic disorders are linked to nervous system imbalances. Research suggests that an overactive connection between the brain and body, influenced by genetics, stress, or environmental triggers, plays a role. It’s not caused by poor parenting or bad habits, it’s neurological.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Repetitive blinking, grimacing or jerking movements
  • Repeated throat clearing, sniffing, grunting or words
  • Tics may get worse with stress, fatigue or excitement
  • Many kids can temporarily “hold back” tics, but it often builds up pressure until the tic reappears

How can Neuro Chiropractic Care help?

Neuro chiropractic care focuses on nervous system regulation, helping the brain and body communicate more calmly and effectively. By gently adjusting areas of the spine that may be creating stress or interference, care can:

  • Reduce nervous system overactivity
  • Improve relaxation and stress resilience
  • Support better focus and body control
  • Help kids feel calmer and more balanced

While there’s no “cure” for Tourette’s, neuro chiropractic care can be a powerful complementary approach, helping kids feel calmer, more confident and better able to thrive at home, school and in social settings.
