Lack of Sleep and Emotions

How Sleep Resets The Brain’s Emotional Compass

Welcome to this week’s Brain Based Wellness News.
In today’s news we will look at how lack of sleep affects the brain’s emotional compass.

Recent studies published in the Journal of Neuroscience found sleep loss dulls your ability to read facial expressions, which is an important component of emotional intelligence.

The ability to recognize the emotional expressions of an individual impacts whether or not you decide to interact with them, and in return, whether they interact with you.

The loss of the ability to read and decode facial emotions can profoundly place you at a social and psychological disadvantage.

Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome is a diagnosis in which the individual fails to decode emotions, resulting in greatly diminished social and psychological functioning.

Dreaming or rapid eye movement sleep plays an important role in emotional intelligence.

More REM sleep is correlated with the ability to more accurately read facial expressions.

Sleep loss is also involved in many mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.

There are many things you can do to improve your sleep, but one of the most important is chiropractic care which has been proven to relieve symptoms associated with trouble sleeping.

Get regular chiropractic checkups for the whole family, and make sure your spine and your brain are working the best they can.

Your health will be better because of it. And that’s this week’s Brain Based Wellness News.
