Sleep, Exercise & Preventive Health

Sleep and your Immune System

This week’s minute looks at how sleep affects your immune system.

Sleep plays an important role in your overall health, and not getting enough of it can negatively affect your immune system.

Lack of sleep causes your body to be more susceptible to infections and inflammation.

For optimal health it is recommended you get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. This will help your immune system, and also protect you from other health issues including heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Even short daily naps (for no longer than 30 minutes), have been shown to have positive effects on your immune system as well as decrease the negative effects of stress.

Keep your immune system healthy with a nutritious diet, regular exercise, quality sleep, a positive attitude, and regular chiropractic care.

Make chiropractic a regular health habit for the whole family to ensure your spines and nervous systems are working the best they can.

And that is this week’s Family Health Minute
