About Fourways ChiropracticHi there, and welcome to Fourways Chiropractic, a neurologically-based, family wellness practice, with a particular focus on optimal function of the nervous system. Our advanced, internationally-taught techniques and methods of adjustment not only suit patients that seek a chiropractor as a result of pain, but also lend themselves to those that are looking to improve their general state of physiological well being.
Our low-force techniques are particularly suited to pregnant ladies, babies and those more sensitive patients that don't like, or may be more sensitive to the traditional high-impact adjustments. Our experience is that patients initially contact us as a result of back pain, neck pain or headaches, but with regular treatment many experience improvements in other areas such as sleep patterns, bowel movements, memory and concentration, and a general feeling of well-being and improved quality of life. |
About Dr Nicole Bernic |
Hi, I’m Nicole, the owner and founder of Fourways Chiropractic. I am a chiropractor, a business owner, and a mother of two 9 year old boys.
I am passionate about chiropractic and helping people feel better and live better quality of lives as healthily and naturally as possible.
I graduated from the University of Johannesburg in 2005 and after working as a locum in various practices, I started up my own practice in Alberton in 2006 whilst I taught pilates in the early hours of the mornings and evenings. I also worked part time for a company where I helped get people back to work as quickly as possible by providing advice and I got to adjust and work with the Lions Rugby team, keeping them injury free and at the top of their game.
I worked long hours and spent every spare moment reading up and learning new techniques, attending seminars and broadening my skills.
I became passionate about changing people’s lives after seeing how a special kind of chiropractor from Australia changed my mom’s life and literally brought her back to life, as well as then my own experience with some serious health challenges that through specific chiropractic care, and the chiropractic lifestyle I was able to overcome, and at the age of 45 now, after twins, I have never been healthier or happier. I ended up following this chiropractor around, picking his brain, reading all the books he read and recommended me to read, trained under him, and then brought out the person who trained him, to teach us more. I changed my techniques, and to date are the most up to date, neurologically based techniques that are suited for the littlies and the oldies alike. I built a very successful wellness based practice that I sold, and then built Fourways Chiropractic’s building on my property at home here in Fourways where I grew very quickly only to take a long leave of absence while providing the best I could for my little twin boys who were born 2 months premature, whom I tried to work on (doing craniosacral therapy) through the little holes of their incubators whilst the nurses weren’t looking as often as I could. The Paeds were all astounded at how well the boys did considering being so prem.
I wish for nothing more than for everyone to be able to get their spines adjusted and freed up so their nervous systems can function without interference, so they can be the best they can be and live more fulfilled healthy and better quality of lives. It starts with babies, if all babies could get adjusted from birth, so many of the challenges they face can be eliminated. And then with families, if all the members of the family are free from interference, they would have happier healthier relationships. And business people, if they could all function at their peak without interference, imagine the effect on the economy! Changing the world, one adjustment at a time, one person at a time, this is my vision, and this is what I work towards with passion in my heart.

Neurologically-based Chiropractic
We all have an inborn innate intelligence. That is, if we get cut, an automatic process occurs to heal the wound. This is governed by the nervous system. Specific neurologically based chiropractic adjustments regulate the nervous system, allowing the body’s inborn intelligence to do what it needs to, thereby maximising the expression of the potential within. Read more here.
Our Patients
We like to work with people who are ready to heal or want to achieve their full potential and are willing to do what it takes. The body does heal, in alignment, and given time. But the term, in alignment, is a complex one. Alignment of the nervous system, the spine, the cellular system, etc. with source and the adjustments are designed to allow for the regenerative process in the body to occur. Just like an acorn has the potential within to become an oak tree, over time, with the right ingredients, like good soil with nutrition, water, sunlight and carbon dioxide. We all have a potential within us, and chiropractic unleashes and maximises that potential within.
Our Process
Your first session is an hour long and involves a comprehensive history and a full evaluation to test your nervous system’s response to certain stressors. This includes an EEG, EMG, heart rate variability, breathing, skin temperature and sweat response which is performed from the age of 6. This tests your ability to deal with certain stressors that may be adversely affecting your health. The results help us to identify problem areas and create a comprehensive plan for improving your stress response, and thus your state of well-being. A functional analysis will be performed to correlate your physical state of well-being identifying areas of concern.
At the second visit/report of findings, we will discuss the outcome of the test results and formulate a way forward/treatment plan depending on your specific health needs and objectives.

Chiropractic and Your Health
Your nervous system controls everything that is going on in your body. It is the computer regulating your entire system. Getting a chiropractic adjustment is like rebooting, reformatting and debugging the computer, so that it can function more efficiently.
If you are in alignment, the nerves are allowed to flow freely, without interference: the body is self-adapting, self-healing and self-regulating. If however you are misaligned or have nerve interference, the ability of the body to self-heal, adapt and regulate becomes compromised, which leads to breakdown, dis-ease and symptoms. However, having said that, some people never have symptoms. Having symptoms are good. It’s the body’s way of telling you that something is amiss. Don’t ignore these symptoms. You wouldn’t ignore the red light that advises you that your car is out of oil would you? However, don’t think that just because you have no symptoms you have no interference!
Judging your health on how you feel is not good a good indicator of good health or function. When looking at the nervous system, 10 % is for pain, 45% is the autonomic system (everything that happens automatically that you have no control of, such as your digestion, skin temperature, heart rate, breathing etc) and the other 45% is motor (ie. Voluntary, or what you can physically control). So, you only have 45% that you are in control of. Only 10% is for pain! This clearly tells us that if you have no pain, it does not mean you have optimum function and good health.
Health is not the absence of symptoms. Health is about function. Losing function does not require the presence of pain or symptoms. Research shows that the majority of the public, children included, have abnormal spinal health with no pain. As chiropractors, we improve function by improving the health of the spine and nervous system.
