8 Habits to help you stay calm, cool, and collected under pressure.

Grace Under Pressure

Welcome to this week’s Brain-Based Wellness News.

In today’s news we will look at 8 habits to help you stay calm, cool, and collected under pressure.

Many of us suffer from what is known as ‘performance anxiety’ with physical symptoms including a racing heart, sweaty palms, dry mouth, upset stomach and shakiness.

Here are 8 habits that will help you stay centered and focused in times of adversity.

1. Visualize. By taking a deep breath and exhaling you can lower your heart rate and blood pressure.

2. Practice, Practice, Practice. A part of your brain, the cerebellum stores muscle memory and allows you to perform gracefully under pressure.

3. Create Flow by Balancing Skill and Challenge. The key to being in the ‘zone’ or creating a state of ‘flow’ is to find where your skill level perfectly matches the challenge.

4. Reframe Priorities and Values. Get in the habit of reframing the importance of the event by putting it in a broader perspective of other things that you are good at and what matters most to you.

5. Use Neuroplasticity to Re-Wire Habits of Positive Thinking. By generating positive emotions you will ‘fire-and-wire’ together neural networks associated with a mindset that will give you grace under pressure.

6. Seek Daily Physicality. Cardio-respiratory activity, strength training and yoga boost your feel-good endorphins and distract you from daily worries.

7. Anxiety is Contagious: Avoid Anxious People. People who emit easy-going, warm, upbeat emotions are much better for your health, longevity, and ability to perform under pressure.

8. Foster Loving & Kindness. Research suggests that positive emotions release oxytocin and serotonin, which are stress-relieving hormones vital to our well-being.

And of course, chiropractic care has been found to help people better manage their stress.

Get regular chiropractic checkups for the whole family, and make sure your spine and your brain are working the best they can.

Your health will be better because of it.
